Choose the Tattoos

Deciding which tattoo(s) will best protect the patient is the first step in the process. Where appropriate, the specific surgical procedure may dictate the design.

Surgical Ink® offers a wide variety of tattoo designs available to hospitals, free-standing surgical centers and physicians. These designs include generic tattoos usable with any surgical procedure and practice-specific tattoos based upon a surgeon’s clinical specialty. This allows us the ability to cater to the wide-ranging needs of large urban medical centers and teaching hospitals while affording small, rural hospitals the same broad based protections without the necessity of maintaining a large inventory of multiple designs.

Involving the patient in the “site identification” process prior to admittance actively engages them in the preventative process and can contribute to the reduction of “wrong-site, wrong-procedure, wrong-patient” error. As part of this involvement, the tattoo(s) to be used is introduced together with the specifics of applying the tattoos and their effortless and painless removal.

In most instances, the surgical facility, whether a hospital or free-standing outpatient surgical center, will inventory and apply the tattoo(s).
